This Week in Digital: w/c January 30th    

What’s happened this week:

• Significant new policies from the web’s big players as they seek to consolidate their positions and grow in new markets;
• Google want to share personal data across their 60 services.
• Facebook will make Timeline compulsory for all.
• Twitter are now able to censor tweets by country.
• The Digital Life Design conference in Munich saw a wide range of presentations from the major players including Sheryl Sandberg who claimed that Facebook adds USD 15bn to the European economy.  
• We launched the ‘New Living Room’ at Seymour Mews. A place to explore the impact of new technologies on consumers’ lives and their potential role in communications and beyond.

What we have learned:

• The Daily Mail overtook the New York Times to become the largest online newspaper in the world.
• Google made USD37.9bn in revenue in 2011, terms such as ‘cheap car insurance’ make USD 33.97 per click.
• The web economy will double in the next 4 years to USD4.2trn in the G20 according to BCG.

Cool stuff

• MTV have launched an interesting mobile companion app for TV show  Geordie Shore, with in show tweets and character tweets through the week.
• Track your look with Pose and Facebook timeline.
• The ability to play games across multiple devices creates new kinds of interaction as demonstrated by Roller Johnny.
